Dear Readers,

From a variety of backgrounds and nationalities, the contributors for Remus Volume XVII have taken time, in an uncertain world, to express their deepest personal thoughts and experiences. With the aim of connecting with others, through art of all kinds, our writers, artists, and photographers capture the intricacies of daily life and explore the meaning of human existence. We invite you to join them in reflecting on our differing lives and shared moments.

The writers and poets in this volume allow themselves to be vulnerable, and in turn ask us to explore the deep complexities of being human and what that entails. Through fiction and non-fiction, each author explores the past and present, building narratives that summarize the vast experience of our individual lives.

This edition’s visual artists explore techniques and colors through ink and watercolor drawings, mixed media layering, and digital art. They capture daily objects and natural life with printmaking and cyanotype, expressing emotion and humanity.

The photographers demonstrate their abilities by exploring black-and-white and abstract photography. Working with contrast, shadow, and texture allows them to transform ordinary spaces into conceptual compositions, ultimately moving beyond mere documentation and into creative expression.

With different talents and skills, the students in this edition show what it is like to be a part of this tight-knit community in Rome. Through personal essays, poetry, fiction, photography, and fine arts, these students create a space in which they can nurture their artistic souls.

We are delighted to present to you the seventeenth edition of Remus.

Kindly,

Loren Le Quesne, Isabela El Dib Maesano,

Diantha Jorgensen, Magdalena Katanova
